Join us at the #SQLSat61 Women in IT Lunch Session

4 December 2010

I will be moderating a Women in IT Lunch session at SQL Saturday 61 held in Washington DC (actually, Reston, VA).

PASSWIT is the Women in Technology virtual chapter (http://wit.sqlpass.org) of the Professional Association of SQL Server Professionals (PASS). At SQL Saturday #61, Karen Lopez will be leading a discussion about why diversity in IT is an important issue for our communities, organizations and families. Why are women’s salaries lower than men’s? Why are women leaving the profession at a faster rate than men? Why are fewer girls choosing to study computer science and IT? Is any of this really a problem? If so, what should we be doing about it?

This discussion is not limited to female attendees: it is open to all! Join us with your thoughts and insights into why our profession is where it is today and how we can encourage more females to consider IT careers.

The Women in Technology discussion with take place during lunch. The room hasn’t been decided yet, so keep your eyes open for signs or ask one of the many volunteers who will be available for directions. We look forward to seeing you there and for a lively discussion!

Sandra Meuller has shared her experiences of women in in the workplace (the military and IT) on her blog post about the upcoming WIT session. Her thoughts are the perfect framing of some the things we will be talking about on Saturday.
